P0533 sets when the A/C pressure transducer signal voltage stays above the high threshold, typically over 4.6 to 4.9 volts, indicating either an open signal circuit, a sensor stuck at full scale, or genuinely catastrophic head pressure. Cheapest-first: gauge the system before doing anything else. A high-side reading over 400 psi at idle with the fan running means the condenser airflow is blocked, the cooling fan is dead, or the system is overcharged; the sensor is doing its job and the PCM is correctly disabling the compressor. If the gauges show normal pressure (150 to 250 psi at idle with A/C max) but the scan tool reads 4.9 volts, the signal wire is open or the sensor's internal element has failed open. Verify 5V reference and ground at the connector before swapping the part. Expensive misdiagnosis: replacing a perfectly good transducer when the actual fault is a seized condenser fan motor or a plugged condenser core full of bug debris.

Vehicle-specific patterns: 2007-2014 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado see the condenser fan motor fail (the variable-speed module on the radiator support burns out), spiking high-side pressure and tripping P0533 within minutes of A/C engagement. 2009-2014 Ford F-150 with the 5.4L and 6.2L loses cooling fan control through PCM driver failure, presenting as P0533 even though the transducer is healthy. 2004-2009 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia with the 5VZ derivative platforms develop a TSB-noted condenser blockage from highway debris, raising head pressure into P0533 territory. 2011-2016 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 lose the high-side signal wire at a chafe point behind the headlamp where the harness crosses the core support.
