P0019

Crankshaft/Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 2 Sensor B)

high severityDo not drive$200-$2,500

Bank 2 exhaust cam correlation fault.

Common symptoms

  • CEL
  • Rough idle

Likely causes

  • Timing chain stretch bank 2
  • VVT issue

Where to start

  1. Try the cheapest cause first. Start by checking: timing chain stretch bank 2.
  2. Cost & scope. $200-$2,500
  3. If the code returns after the fix: escalate to a shop or scanner with live-data and freeze-frame. A code that re-sets means the underlying fault is still there. Don't keep driving with this one active — risk of damage.

Bank 2 Sensor B (exhaust cam) — Crank-to-Cam correlation fault on bank 2 exhaust. Mirror image of P0017 but on bank 2. Often appears with P0018 on V-engines with stretched chains, or alone with a failed bank 2 exhaust OCV or phaser. Cheapest-first ladder: (1) Look for paired codes — P0016/P0017/P0018/P0019 together is a chain-stretch slam-dunk on shared-chain V-engines. (2) Live-data bank 2 exhaust cam correlation, watch for rpm-dependent drift. (3) Swap bank 2 exhaust OCV with bank 1 exhaust OCV to isolate solenoid from cam-side hardware. (4) Inspect bank 2 exhaust cam sensor. (5) Visual chain inspection at the valve covers. Don't approve a chain job on a lone P0019 — exhaust-side single-bank codes are most often OCV solenoid failures, which are 1/20th the cost of a chain job.

Vehicle-specific patterns

Vehicle-specific patterns: 2008-2013 GM 3.6L LLT/LFX V6 — full chain wear pattern, P0019 part of the cluster. 2007-2013 Nissan VQ35 — bank 2 chain guide failure as above. 2011-2016 Ford F-150 5.0L Coyote — bank 2 exhaust phaser failure. 2009-2015 Cadillac CTS/SRX 3.6L direct-injection — known bank 2 exhaust OCV failure, replace solenoid. 2007-2012 BMW N62/N63 V8 — bank 2 VANOS solenoid carbon, ultrasonic clean or replace. Estimated repair: $90 to $3,800.
