C0062 is a short-to-battery fault in the ABS solenoid valve relay circuit — the EBCM is detecting that the relay coil control circuit is being held at battery voltage when the module commands it open, which means either the relay coil is internally shorted, the relay drive transistor inside the EBCM has failed, or the wiring between EBCM and relay has chafed against a +12V source. The ABS valve relay is the master power-feed relay that energizes all the ABS solenoid valves during a braking event, so when this circuit faults the entire ABS function is disabled and the warning light stays on. Cheapest-first ladder: (1) Pull the ABS relay from its socket (usually in the underhood fuse box or the EBCM itself on integrated units) and ohm-check the coil terminals — expect 60-120 ohms across the coil; a reading near zero is a shorted coil, near infinite is an open coil, and either condition can set C0062. (2) Inspect the underhood fuse-box terminals for corrosion and the relay socket pins for spread or burnt contacts — a relay socket with a heat-damaged pin throws C0062 and gets misdiagnosed as a bad EBCM. (3) Continuity-check the relay control wire from the EBCM to the relay socket with the EBCM unplugged — any continuity to chassis ground or to a +12V source is a wiring fault, not a module fault. (4) Swap a known-good relay of the same part number from another circuit (horn, fuel pump, headlamp) to rule out the relay before condemning the EBCM. Expensive-misdiagnosis caveat: GM trucks 1999-2007 with the Kelsey-Hayes 325 EBCM — C0062 on these is most often an internal EBCM failure rather than an external short, and the module is integrated with the hydraulic control unit (HCU) making OEM replacement a $700-$1,400 affair; however, bench-rebuild services (Module Master, MyAirbags, and similar) can rebuild a failed K-H 325 EBCM for $150-$250 with a lifetime warranty, which is the realistic shop-floor option on a 15-year-old truck.

Vehicle-specific patterns: 1999-2007 GM trucks (Silverado/Sierra/Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban/Avalanche) with the Kelsey-Hayes 325 EBCM are the classic C0062 platform — solder joints inside the module crack from underhood thermal cycling and the relay-driver circuit goes open or shorted; bench rebuild is the going repair, full module replacement is the dealer route. 2003-2008 Dodge Ram 1500/2500/3500 with the Bosch 5.7 ABS module throws C0062 from corroded EBCM connector pins where the connector seal degrades and lets road salt in. 2005-2011 Ford Mustang/Crown Victoria with Teves Mark 20 systems throw C0062 from a failed underhood ABS relay that's external to the module — a $25 fix once the relay is identified, but commonly misdiagnosed as a module failure. 2004-2009 Toyota Tacoma/4Runner with the Bosch 8.0 system throws C0062 from a wiring chafe at the EBCM harness clip on the inner fender. Estimated repair: $25 (external relay) to $1,400 (full OEM module + programming).
