P0884 is the intermittent variant of the TCM power input fault, set when the TCM sees its ignition feed glitch or drop out briefly and recover, too short to set P0880 or P0882 but long enough to trip the rationality monitor. This is the hardest of the TCM-power family to diagnose because the fault is by definition not present during static testing. Cheapest first: scan-tool the freeze-frame data and note the conditions (cold start, hot restart, over bumps, during specific gear changes), then perform a wiggle test on the entire TCM power harness from PDC to module while a helper watches battery voltage on a graphing meter; any drop of more than 0.5V during wiggle is the fault. Caveat: on Chrysler TIPM platforms, P0884 is almost always the TIPM-internal TCM relay starting to fail.
Vehicle-specific patterns
Vehicle-specific patterns: 2007-2014 Chrysler 300, Charger, and Grand Cherokee with TIPM-7 are the dominant P0884 platform; the failure mode is early-stage TCM relay contact arcing. 2009-2015 GM 6L80 sees P0884 from mechatronic internal power circuit cold-solder joint that conducts when warm and opens briefly during thermal cycling. 2012-2018 Ford F-150 with the 6R80 throws P0884 from underhood fuse box (BJB) internal corrosion at the TCM stab. 2011-2016 Jeep Wrangler JK with the NAG1 sees P0884 from chronic underhood vibration loosening the TCM connector. Estimated repair: $250 to $1800.
