P0882 is the low-voltage variant of the TCM power input fault, set when the TCM ignition feed drops below a defined threshold (commonly 9.0V on most domestic platforms, 8.5V on some European applications) for longer than a calibrated dwell, typically 100-500 milliseconds. Cheapest first: load-test the battery and confirm CCA is within 80 percent of rated. Next, with the engine cranking, measure voltage directly at the TCM connector power pin (not at the battery), because the relevant droop is at the TCM, not the battery post; spec is to stay above 9.5V at the TCM during cranking. Caveat: P0882 will often set as a secondary fault after a no-start crank attempt with a weak battery, then clear and not return once the battery is recharged or replaced.
Vehicle-specific patterns
Vehicle-specific patterns: 2007-2013 Chrysler with TIPM-7 (300, Charger, Grand Cherokee, Town & Country) sees P0882 from TIPM internal TCM relay contact pitting; the underhood relay relocation kit (external socketed relay) is the durable workaround. 2008-2014 GM 6L80-equipped Silverado and Tahoe throw P0882 from corroded underhood ground G103, common in rust-belt vehicles. 2011-2017 Ford F-150 with the 6R80 logs P0882 when the megafuse or BJB feed for the TCM degrades. 2010-2016 Mercedes with 7G-Tronic and dual-battery systems sees P0882 from auxiliary battery failure that goes unnoticed until the TCM logs the code.
