This code typically arms only after the PCM has already validated the sensor against expected behavior, which makes it more trustworthy than P0521 as a real-pressure indicator. Cheapest-first ladder, in order of severity: verify oil level (it is shockingly common to find this code on a vehicle two quarts low), then verify oil viscosity matches the OEM spec (5W-20 in a spec-30 engine will set this on a hot day), then hook a mechanical gauge to confirm the PCM's reading. If real pressure is low, suspect (in order) a clogged pickup tube screen from sludge, a worn oil pump, worn main and rod bearings, or on AFM/VCM engines a stuck pressure relief or worn lifter oil control valve. Caveat: do not keep driving a vehicle with confirmed P0524 because every minute at real low pressure is bearing wear that does not come back.
