OBD-II Code · Sensors
P0192
Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Low Input
Rail pressure sensor low.
Common symptoms
- CEL
Likely causes
- Failed sensor
- Wiring short
Where to start
- Try the cheapest cause first. Start by checking: failed sensor.
- Cost & scope. $150-$400
- If the code returns after the fix: escalate to a shop or scanner with live-data and freeze-frame. A code that re-sets means the underlying fault is still there.
Read the full diagnostic procedure
P0192 means the fuel rail pressure sensor signal voltage dropped below the calibrated low threshold, typically under 0.3 volts on a 0 to 5 volt sensor that should idle around 0.5 to 1.0 volts and rise to 4.0 to 4.5 volts at maximum rail pressure. Cheapest first: scan live data and look at the FRP sensor voltage with key-on-engine-off; a reading pinned at 0.0 volts indicates the signal wire is shorted to ground or the sensor has lost its 5-volt reference. Back-probe the sensor's three wires and verify 5.0 volts on the reference pin and good ground (under 0.1 volts) on the return pin. If both are present and signal is still 0 volts, the sensor itself is faulty. If the 5-volt reference is missing, check for a shared-reference fault: many platforms run multiple sensors off one ECM reference circuit, and a shorted MAP or oil pressure sensor can collapse the bus and set P0192 alongside other codes. Caveat: never assume the sensor is bad until the 5-volt reference and ground are confirmed at the connector, since the part is often $150 to $400 and the wiring is free.
Vehicle-specific patterns
Vehicle-specific patterns: Ford EcoBoost 1.5L, 2.0L, and 2.3L (2013-2020 Fusion, Escape, Mustang) sees P0192 from FRP sensor connector pin fretting; cleaning the connector with electrical contact cleaner clears the fault in many cases. GM 5.3L and 6.2L direct injection (2014-2019 Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban) sets P0192 from a failed FRP sensor on the driver-side fuel rail, addressed in GM Bulletin 18-NA-279. VW/Audi 2.0T TSI (2008-2017) sets P0192 from HPFP fuel pressure sensor failure, sensor sold separately from the pump. Cummins ISB 6.7L (2007-2018 Ram HD, medium-duty) sees P0192 from rail pressure sensor failure or corroded connector. Estimated repair: $80 to $550.
