B1313 is a body-side overvoltage code — the BCM (Body Control Module) is reading the battery/ignition feed above its acceptable upper window, typically anything north of 16.0V sustained on a system that should sit at 12.4-12.8V engine-off and 13.5-14.5V with the alternator charging. The cheapest-first ladder: (1) Throw a multimeter on the battery posts engine-off and engine-running — if you see 15.5V+ at the battery with the alternator working, the voltage regulator inside the alternator is failing and over-driving the system (cheapest real fix). (2) Check the BCM power-feed connector and the main ground strap from the engine to the body — a corroded or loose ground floats the BCM's reference and makes a perfectly normal 14.2V read as an overvoltage event. (3) Scan the BCM's live-data voltage PID and compare it against an actual multimeter reading on the same circuit — if the BCM reports 16.5V while your meter shows 14.1V, the BCM's internal voltage-sense circuit is the failure, not the alternator. Expensive-misdiagnosis caveat: do NOT throw a $250-$600 BCM at this code without first confirming the actual feed voltage with a meter — half the B1313 tickets that come into independent shops are bad alternator regulators ($120-$280 installed) where the previous shop replaced the BCM and the new module instantly set the same code on the next drive cycle.

Vehicle-specific patterns

Vehicle-specific patterns: 2011-2016 Ford F-150/Explorer/Edge with Sync2 (and early Sync3) frequently throws B1313 during or shortly after a module reflash event — the alternator regulator on these trucks doesn't damp transient voltage spikes well, and a reflash with the engine running pushes the BCM's voltage-sense over threshold for a few seconds and sets the code. 2010-2015 GM trucks/SUVs (Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban) running the CS130D-style alternator commonly throw B1313 when the internal regulator goes intermittent and spikes to 16-17V under low-load cruise. Any vehicle that's been jump-started or hooked to a 50A+ charger in the past 48 hours can latch B1313 from the transient — clear it, drive a few cycles, and if it doesn't return, it was the jumpstart event. 2007-2012 Nissan Altima/Maxima with the IPDM and ECM-controlled alternator throws B1313 when the duty-cycle command from the ECM glitches and commands full-field output regardless of battery state. Estimated repair: $0 (clear post-jumpstart) to $650 (BCM replacement and reprogram).
