P1455 on a Toyota is the EVAP Control System major-leak code reported by the EVAP pump module (the leak-detection pump that lives on the charcoal canister assembly under the spare tire on Sequoia/Tundra/4Runner or on the rear frame rail on Camry/Highlander). The pump pressurizes the entire EVAP system to a target vacuum/pressure and watches current draw and decay time — a healthy pump draws 0.5-2A during the seal test and holds pressure for 30+ seconds; a system with a major leak (gas cap loose, hose disconnected, canister cracked) drops pressure immediately and the pump runs continuously trying to maintain it. The cheapest-first ladder: tighten the gas cap and drive 2-3 drive cycles to see if it self-clears (Toyota requires multiple cold-start cycles before EVAP monitors re-run). Then visually inspect every EVAP hose from the tank forward — the rubber hose between the canister and the purge VSV is the most common failure on Tundra/Sequoia, cracking from heat-soak above the exhaust crossover. Next, smoke-test the EVAP system through the service port (usually a green Schrader valve near the canister) — fog escapes the leak. Finally, pull the pump module connector and check pump current at startup with an amp clamp. Don't replace the EVAP pump module before smoke-testing — the module is $350-600 and most P1455 codes are a $5 hose or a $20 gas cap, with the pump only being the actual failure on roughly 20% of the cases that walk through the door.

Vehicle-specific patterns: 2007-2014 Tundra 5.7L (3UR-FE) and Sequoia commonly throw P1455 from cracked EVAP hoses above the rear axle where road heat and exhaust heat both cook the rubber — a $15 fuel-rated hose section and two clamps clears it. 2005-2015 Tacoma 2.7L/4.0L throws P1455 from the canister assembly cracking after rock impacts (it sits exposed near the rear frame rail) — the canister-pump unit is $280-400. 2007-2017 Camry 2.5L (2AR-FE) and 3.5L (2GR-FE) throws P1455 from the purge VSV (vacuum switching valve) sticking open and from a failed fuel-tank vent valve at the filler neck. 2004-2009 Prius Gen2 (1NZ-FXE) throws P1455 from the sealed EVAP system's bladder failing internally — Toyota issued a TSB for affected VINs and many got a full canister replacement under warranty extension. Lexus RX330/RX350 mirrors the Highlander pattern. Estimated repair: $20 (gas cap or single hose) to $650 (full pump module plus canister).
