Cheapest-first ladder: visually inspect every charge-air-cooler hose, clamp, and coupler from turbo outlet to throttle body — the cold-side intercooler hose at the throttle body on 3.5L EcoBoost F-150s is the number-one failure point and will literally pop off the throttle body under hard acceleration. With engine off, pressure-test the intake tract from compressor outlet to throttle body at 20 psi using a turbo smoke machine; a 5-second leak-down should hold above 18 psi. Scan live data and watch commanded vs actual boost; under load a 3.5L EcoBoost should hit 12 to 18 psi commanded and actual within 1 psi at WOT in 3rd gear.
