OBD-II Code · Sensors
P0330
Knock Sensor 2 Circuit (Bank 2)
Bank 2 knock sensor circuit fault.
Common symptoms
- CEL
- Pinging
Likely causes
- Failed sensor
- Wiring
Where to start
- Try the cheapest cause first. Start by checking: failed sensor.
- Cost & scope. $150-$500
- If the code returns after the fix: escalate to a shop or scanner with live-data and freeze-frame. A code that re-sets means the underlying fault is still there.
Read the full diagnostic procedure
P0330 is the bank 2 mirror of P0325 - a generic circuit fault on knock sensor 2. Same diagnostic ladder: verify sensor resistance off the harness (piezo 4-5 megohms, resonant 90-110 kohm), verify the bias voltage on the signal wire with the connector unplugged, and tap-test the block near the sensor while watching live data. On V-engines, bank 2 is the bank that does NOT contain cylinder 1 - this matters because GM and Ford disagree on which side that is (GM bank 2 is passenger side on most LS trucks; Ford bank 2 is driver side on most modulars). Confirm the sensor location against the service info before pulling anything. On GM LS V8s, both knock sensors are in the lifter valley under the intake, so a P0330 on a 5.3L truck is the exact same root cause as P0325 - the harness, not the sensor. Caveat: on transverse V6 engines (GM 3.6L LFX, Honda J35) the rear-bank sensor is buried behind the intake and is frequently misdiagnosed because the front-bank sensor tests fine.
Vehicle-specific patterns
Vehicle-specific patterns: 1999-2007 GM 4.8/5.3/6.0 LS trucks set P0330 from the same under-intake harness corrosion as P0325 - both sensors share the harness path. 2005-2011 GM 3.6L LFX/LY7 (CTS, Acadia, Traverse) has a known rear-bank knock sensor failure that requires upper intake removal. 2007-2013 BMW N62 V8 has knock sensor harness failures on bank 2 under the intake. 2004-2010 Toyota Tundra/Sequoia 4.7L 2UZ-FE has a TSB for knock sensor wiring degradation under the intake manifold. Estimated repair: $120 to $750.
