C0700 on Toyota/Lexus platforms equipped with active or adaptive suspension is a 'left rear channel defective' code — the suspension ECU has detected that the left rear damper actuator, accumulator pressure, or ride-height position sensor is not responding to commanded inputs. On Toyota Tundra/Sequoia with AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension), the channel fault usually points at a failed solenoid in the LR damper that adjusts shock valving; on Lexus LX with the full hydraulic active suspension (AHC), the fault typically points at a hydraulic-circuit issue on the LR corner — a failed height-control valve, pressure-accumulator pre-charge loss, or a leaking LR damper cylinder. Cheapest-first ladder: (1) Visual inspect the LR corner for fluid leaks at the damper body and the high-pressure hydraulic lines — AHC fluid leaks are obvious (golden hydraulic fluid pooling under the LR strut tower or wetting the lower control arm), and a leaking damper is a $400-$800 part. (2) Scan-tool live-data the LR ride-height sensor — expect 0-5V scaled across the suspension travel range; flat-lined or pegged readings indicate a failed height sensor or broken linkage rod between the sensor and the LCA. (3) Pressure-test the AHC accumulator spheres if equipped — accumulator pre-charge degrades over 10+ years and produces channel-defective codes when the system can't maintain commanded pressure; this is a serviceable item on LX 470/570 platforms. (4) Resistance-check the damper solenoid on AVS-equipped Tundra/Sequoia (typical spec 3-12 ohms across the coil; open or shorted is a dead solenoid). Expensive-misdiagnosis caveat: on Lexus LX 470/570 with AHC, C0700 is frequently misdiagnosed as a failed shock when the actual issue is system-wide accumulator pressure loss across all four corners and the LR is just the first to flag — a full AHC pressure check across all four spheres is the correct first step, because replacing one shock on a system with degraded accumulators doesn't fix the underlying problem.

Vehicle-specific patterns: 2008-2021 Toyota Tundra/Sequoia with AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension) throws C0700 from failed LR damper solenoids that fail open or shorted; OEM dampers run $400-$700 per corner and aftermarket Bilstein/KYB conversion kits exist that delete the AVS system entirely if Brian's customer doesn't want the OEM cost. 1998-2021 Lexus LX 470/LX 570 with AHC (Adaptive Hydraulic Suspension) throws C0700 from leaking LR damper cylinders (typically the rear cylinders fail before the fronts on these), failed height-control valves at the rear axle, or accumulator pre-charge loss — a Techstream pressure-cross-check is required to isolate. 2007-2017 Lexus LS 460/600h with AVS-equipped trim packages throws C0700 from the same solenoid-failure pattern as Tundra. 2010-2015 Lexus GX 460 with KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) can throw similar channel codes from failed KDSS solenoid valves at the front/rear sway bar pressure circuits.
